Superman/Batman: Apocalypse begins with a meteor shower bombarding Earth. Amidst the chaos, a Kryptonian spacecraft crashes in Gotham City. Batman investigates the crash site and discovers a young Kryptonian girl, Kara Zor-El, Superman's cousin. She's disoriented, speaks only Kryptonian, and possesses immense, uncontrolled power.
Superman quickly arrives, recognizing the girl as family. He takes her to the Fortress of Solitude to help her acclimate to Earth's environment and control her powers. He teaches her about Earth's customs and language, while also training her in combat and the use of her Kryptonian abilities. Kara, eager to learn and please her cousin, makes rapid progress.
However, their peaceful training is disrupted by the arrival of Darkseid, the tyrannical ruler of Apokolips. He dispatches his Furies, a group of elite female warriors led by the formidable Big Barda, to capture Kara.
