Honest Review of this series

Since Spawn: The Animated Series, the greatest mature animated superhero series has been Invincible, which adapts the venerable Image Comics book. The brutality in both is something that a Bruce-Timm-Batman animation or even Spider-Man cartoons wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole, which is also not surprising given that they are both Image products. However, Invincible DOES honour and lean into the "splashes" of humour and snappy dialogue when it comes to paying homage to other superhero shows like Batman; this show takes something like the DCAU and decides to use it as a launchpad for Uber-violence and character-centric world-building focusing on sex and grey morality in a MARVEL-like universe.

Invincible Season 1

Invincible Season 2

Series-SYNOPSIS/PLOT:

Invincible season 1 follows Mark Grayson, a teenager who inherits superpowers from his father, Nolan Grayson, also known as Omni-Man, the most powerful superhero on Earth. Omni-Man is an alien from the Viltrumite race, a brutal and imperialistic species that seeks to conquer and enslave other planets.

Mark discovers his powers at age 17 and adopts the superhero name Invincible. He joins a team of young heroes called the Teen Team, which includes Atom Eve, his future love interest, Rex Splode, Dupli-Kate and Robot. He also befriends Allen the Alien, a representative of the Coalition of Planets, an alliance that opposes the Viltrumites.

The season takes a dark turn when Omni-Man reveals his true nature and kills the Guardians of the Globe, the world's premier superhero team. He then tries to convince Mark to join him in his mission to subjugate Earth, but Mark refuses and fights him. Omni-Man brutally beats Mark and flees the planet, leaving Mark traumatized and conflicted.

Meanwhile, Debbie Grayson, Mark's mother and Nolan's wife, discovers her husband's secret and confronts him. She also helps Cecil Stedman, the head of the Global Defense Agency, to expose Omni-Man and stop him. Cecil deploys various weapons and agents against Omni-Man, but none of them are effective.

The season also explores the lives of other characters, such as Robot, who clones himself a human body with Rex Splode's DNA and falls in love with Monster Girl; Black Samson, who regains his powers after being injured by Machine Head's thugs; Amber Bennett, who breaks up with Mark after learning his superhero identity; William Clockwell, who learns Mark's secret and befriends Rick Sheridan, a college student who is turned into a cyborg by D.A. Sinclair; and Damien Darkblood, a demon detective who investigates Omni-Man's crime and is banished back to Hell by Cecil.

The season ends with a cliffhanger, as Omni-Man tells Mark the truth about his origin and his plan to weaken Earth for the Viltrumite invasion. He also reveals that he never loved Debbie or Mark, and that he sees humans as inferior and disposable. Mark refuses to accept his father's worldview and vows to protect Earth. Omni-Man is moved by Mark's courage and love, and decides to spare him and leave Earth. He is intercepted by Allen the Alien, who warns him that the Viltrumites will come for him.

Mark recovers from his injuries and reunites with his mother and friends. He decides to continue being a superhero and prepare for the future threats. He is also contacted by Allen the Alien, who offers him his friendship and support. The season ends with a montage of multiple villains that will return for future adventures with Mark, such as the Mauler twins, Doc Seismic, Titan, Battle Beast, D.A. Sinclair, Angstrom Levy and Thragg.
