Yuji Itadori is a high school student who joins his school’s Occult Club for fun, but discovers that its members are actually sorcerers who can manipulate the energy between beings for their own use. He hears about a cursed talisman - the finger of Sukuna, a demon - and its being targeted by other cursed beings. He finds one of Sukuna’s fingers in his club room and swallows it to protect his friends from an attack. He becomes Sukuna’s vessel and is recruited by Satoru Gojo, a powerful teacher at Tokyo Jujutsu High School, who sees his potential as a weapon against Sukuna.
Yuji meets his classmates Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kugisaki, who have contrasting personalities but share a sense of justice and determination. He also meets some of the jujutsu authorities, such as Masamichi Yaga, the principal of Tokyo Jujutsu High School, and Shoko Ieiri, the school doctor. He learns that he is sentenced to death by the higher-ups for being Sukuna’s vessel, but Gojo convinces them to spare him until he collects all of Sukuna’s fingers.
Yuji, Nobara and Megumi are assigned to work together on a mission to exorcise a curse that has been terrorizing a nearby town. They encounter Jogo, a special-grade curse who resembles a volcano and has immense fire power. He attacks Yuji and Gojo in an abandoned building, where Yuji experiences his first taste of jujutsu combat and witnesses Gojo’s overwhelming strength. Jogo realizes that he is no match for Gojo, and retreats with his allies.
Yuji, Nobara and Megumi return to Tokyo Jujutsu High School, where they are greeted by their teacher Maki Zenin, who is also Gojo’s student. She tells them that they have been chosen to participate in a special training program called Cursed Training, which will test their skills and abilities as jujutsu sorcerers. She also warns them that they will face dangerous curses along the way.
Yuji, Nobara and Megumi begin their Cursed Training in an underground facility where they have to fight against various curses using their own techniques. They encounter Dagon, a fish-like curse who can manipulate water; Mahito, a curse who can alter his appearance and others’ bodies; and Hanami, a curse who can control plants. They manage to defeat them with their teamwork and creativity.
